Iowa

            Iowa is the place to be! :) Iowa isn't all corn and beans even though agriculture is a big part of our lifestyles.  Iowa is a nice place to be not many big cities but there are a few.  The capital of Iowa is Des Moines.  Iowa has been named one of the top places to raise a family.  Iowa is all together like a family you will find some of the nicest people here who are happy to help.  Iowa has 99 counties, and the population is about 3 million and the state bird is the Eastern Goldfinch.  The state flower is the Wild Rose and state tree is oak.  Iowa became the 29th state on December 28th, 1846.
            In Iowa there are many fun sports to watch, like minor league baseball, an atlantic league football team and two outstanding football teams.  The minor league baseball team is the Iowa Cubs, their players either come down from the Chicago Cubs or they get good enough and move up.  The Atlantic team is the Barnstormers they are very good.  The two college football teams are Iowa and Iowa State.  Iowa is in the big ten and Iowa State is in the big twelve.   
          The Iowa State Fair is also a big part of our culture. Every year thousands of people look forward to coming to the fair. They fair has almost everything you can imagine fried on a stick. Along with the largest bull and bore, there are animals carved from butter, and rides galore. They fair is a fun place to be if you're bored during the summer.

There are many famous people that have come from Iowa:
Shawn Johnson went to the olympics in 2008, she won 3 medals including one gold.
Ashton Kutcher is a famous actor who grew up in Iowa, he has been a leading role in many movies and t.v. shows.

John Wayne grew up in Winterset which is near Van Meter.  He was also a famous actor in many westerns.
